Dress a resident who has a weak arm
The candidate is asked to put a long-sleeved button-front shirt, pants, and socks on a resident who is lying in bed. The resident is not able to help with the dressing and has a weak arm.
Procedure Steps:
Knock on the door, than enter the resident’s room.
Greet the resident, address them by name.
Introduce yourself.
Wash Your Hands.
Close the privacy curtain
Check the Resident’s ID (to make sure it’s the right person)
Provide explanations to resident all throughout the procedure.
Include resident in decision-making about what clothing to wear.
Collect all new articles of clothing before removing old hospital gown.
Be sure to support the resident’s affected arm while undressing and dressing.
Remove the hospital gown.
Dress the resident’s affected arm first.
Roll up the gowns sleeve to ease pulling over affected arm.
Dress the resident by putting on pants, shirt with sleeves, and socks.
Move resident’s extremities gently without overextension or force when undressing and dressing.
Make sure you apply the clothing correctly (e.g. front of shirt in front), adjust clothing for comfort, neatness, alignment, and close fasteners.
Ask the resident if the clothing is comfortable.
Place dirty gown in hamper.
Make sure you keep resident positioned a safe distance from the edge of the bed at all times.
Wash your hands.
Give the resident the call light
